A Special Thank You to One Of Our Favourites!

Here at ADA HQ there is always a flurry of things happening behind the scenes.  Between the three of us, the ADA machine rolls on every day of the week, churning out pretty things for our Darlings to feast their eyes on.   What you probably don’t realise, is that we have a select bunch of incredibly talented people who work their butts off to ensure we have the best of the best to show our Darlings.  One of the hardest working, and most talented would be Brian from When Elephant Met Zebra (WEMZ).

WEMZ joined us at our Sunshine Coast Fair in 2013 and fast became a good friend of ADA.  We loved his enthusiasm, his ridiculously fun Photo Booth and his swoon worthy photography skills.  Before long, we had signed him up as our official photographer for 2014.   WEMZ is for the fun, romantic & creative people out there. They love to play, love to dream and love to create the impossible.  They know how to cut through the clutter and capture a rare and special moment.  We’ve seen Brian work a few times now and his passion for his work is contagious.  Every time we see the photos from our shoots or events with Brian we feel like kids on Christmas Day… we are constantly faced with the problem of having too many awesome photos to chose from (a problem we LOVE to have!).   We love his work so much that our own Darling, Emma, has booked him as her wedding photographer this year!

We’d like to send a big warm and gooey THANK YOU to Brian for all of his hard work so far this year!

If you haven’t checked out When Elephant Met Zebra yet then do yourselves a favour and put this task at the top of your to-do-list.  Here are some of our favourite shots so far…

Darling Dresses Down The Runway – Part 3

Today we’re putting a sparkly spotlight on our third fashion parade from our recent Gold Coast Wedding Festival.   By the time our third parade was taking place the atmosphere at our wedding festival was electric.  Our Darlings were enjoying the live music, the delicious food and having a great time chatting to our vendors (who were also enjoying the food & music!).  There was a lot of love in the air and this fashion parade left a lot of people wanting to know more about Bohemian Brides, a beautiful new store just around the corner from The Wedding Festival. Gorgeous gowns are available to order in store at Bohemian Brides. Designers of these dresses shown below, from designer Pia Gladys Perey and the lovely lace gown is by Watters. Stunning hair and make-up by The Beauty Case and amazing florals by GC Flowers +.

Some Sneaky Fun Behind The Scenes

Do you guys love photo booths as much as we do!?  They add such a fun vibe to any event – especially a Wedding Festival!   One of the awesome photo booths at our recent Gold Coast Wedding Festival was the cute and funky When Elephant Met Zebra booth.   Brian (the boss man over at When Elephant Met Zebra) doesn’t just take spectacular wedding photos, but he can also provide one of the most fun and interactive props to any event… our Vendors loved this thing so much that we couldn’t keep them away on the night!

Here is a little behind the scenes fun at A Darling Affair – all photos below are either vendors, models, helpers or Darlings… see if you can guess who is who!

If you were there on the night taking happy snaps then head here to find your cheeky photos:  http://whenelephantmetzebra.pixieset.com/ada/individuals/

Darling Dresses Down The Runway – Part 2

If you were at our Gold Coast Wedding Festival then you’d probably already know all about our four interactive fashion parades.  You would have seen our models strut their stuff in their gorgeous gowns and then perhaps you had a chat with them, got to see and touch the gowns up close, perhaps you took a few photos of the dress and spoke to the designer too?  If not, don’t feel too sad, we’re about to give you another look at our second fashion parade that took place that night.  This one featured stunning gowns by Begitta and our models we made (even more) pretty by Elina Valttila.

Thanks again to the amazing, incredible and all round nice guy Brian from When Elephant Met Zebra for these photos.

And that’s a wrap!

Did you come to A Darling Affair – Gold Coast on Friday 21 February at Rabbit + Cocoon?  If you did, then this news will be no surprise to you… but if you didn’t make it, then let me be the first to tell you how FREAKIN AWESOME it was!  Seriously, we had the best and most amazing venue, vendors, models, and what a turnout!

Right from the beginning of the day when our vendors were putting in their hard yards setting up their incredible sites, the atmosphere was electric.  We all knew something really special was about to go down.  We had trucks, minivans, cars and caravans rocking up from 10am that morning and there were ladders, power tools, trolley’s and trailers filling up the amazing venue that is Rabbit & Cocoon.

Come 5 o’clock and we already had a line-up of people waiting for the gates to open.  Our vendors had put the finishing touches on their incredible stalls and we opened the gates to get the party started!  With a glass of bubbles or a beer in one hand and a totes-amazing A Darling Affair tote in the other (thanks Peachy Flamingo!), the crowds started visiting the stalls of more than 40 of the freshest and most creative wedding vendors on the scene at the moment.  The crowds continued to flow through the gates all night.

Our awesome DJ, Aaron from Cut-A-Rug, provided the playlist for the evening and along with our live music acts including Sarah Head, the tone was set for a night of fun and frivolity!

Major highlights of the night included our four interactive fashion parades, made all the more enjoyable by our incredible models who were more than happy to join in the fun with the rest of our guests getting their pics snapped at our photo booths.  Thanks again to The Brides Market, Begitta, Bohemian Brides, Urbanna, The Beauty Case, Elina Valttila and our super amazing models!

The piñata smash was another highlight of the night!  Guests lined up to take a hit at the incredible piñata supplied by Party Pony.

And finally – the annual Dance Off was a huge success, with guests getting their dance on IN THE RAIN to win $300 off a DJ package with Cut-A-Rug.

By 10pm when we closed the gates, none of us could wipe the smile from our faces.  The evening was a huge success and we had received so much amazing feedback from Brides and Vendors, without whom, this event wouldn’t have happened.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, we have the BEST vendors, venues, models and Brides any Darling could ask for… thank you for being so amazing!

Introducing our FILM STARS!

Jasperandruby

JASPER AND RUBY

In a nutshell, who are you and what do you do?

We make kick ass wedding films. We try to push our own creative boundaries at every wedding. Also, we are husbo and wifey.

What is it about weddings that you love so much?

We believe in marriage and it is such an emotional experience to be part of a couple’s day when they take the leap together and to witness the tangible love in the air. It sounds lame but it is so real. Delyse actually does cry at every wedding.

What do you do in your free time?

Family is very important to us so we spend a lot of our spare time with our son Israel going for bike rides, to the beach, the skate park.

Yellowbullmedia

YELLOW BULL MEDIA

In a nutshell, who are you and what do you do?

We are Martin and Kehra- partners in film and partners in life. Our passion is capturing beautiful and cinematic imagery, then cutting it together to tell a unique story and what story is more unique and beautiful than two people joining together for the rest of their lives? We have both been trained in the art of filmmaking and audio and bring our knowledge and creativity to each wedding we have the pleasure of filming.

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

We have seen a few pretty interesting things. Brides dancing on tables. A bride and a groom jumping in water puddles as their marquee flooded (talk about making the best of a tricky situation). We’ve had a wedding that had a petting zoo and recently our first Jewish wedding where they lifted the couple up on chairs for their traditional Haka dance.

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

Yellow of course. It’s in our company’s name, happens to be my (Kehra) favourite colour and it’s a part of the man I loves name. Not to mention that it is such a pretty and happy colour.

SAVE THE DATE CINEMA

In a nutshell, who are you and what do you do?

First and foremost a husband. Then a gun slinging cinematographer and coffee drinking editor.

What do you do in your free time?

I’m a pretty normal guy, I love my family, travel, fishing and sports. In addition, what I do in the full time I also do as a part of my free time. I love photographing/filming the moments and saving the memories.

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

Teal and turquoise of the sea – as it is pure and pristine yet full of life.

Moose and co

MOOSE & CO.

In a nutshell, who are you and what do you do?

Ever since I started making short films in 2006, I’ve loved the creative freedom that stop-motion offers. To make a stop-motion wedding video, I go to a wedding, with my DSLR camera, just like any normal wedding photographer—Only I take thousands of photos, and then edit them all together, to create the illusion of motion. Through use of stop motion, I can get really creative, and make unique, funny, and quirky videos that can’t be achieved through traditional wedding videography or photography. I take the charm from a beautiful wedding photo and the life that video brings, and I meld them together. The best of both worlds.

What do you do in your free time?

I write articles for various websites, including Your Friends House. I also write scripts for short films that I intend to film.

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

Brown. Because I like a lot of old-fashioned things that are brown. Laugh if you want. Most people think it’s a boring, ugly colour. Yes, it’s the colour of poo. I don’t care. I love vintage, brown leather. Brown shoes, brown chairs, brown cars, brown everything. Fun fact: My hair is also brown.

ADAM WARD PHOTOGRAPHY

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

Late last year I shot a wedding where the couple whispered their vows into each others ears so only they could hear what was being said. It’s the first time I’ve seen the vows done that way and I thought it was pretty special. There was something more intimate and personal about it.

What do you do in your free time?

I have 2 year old twins so between looking after them and running my business free time is a scarce commodity but when I can I like to head to the beach for a surf otherwise it’s just hanging with my family.

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

“Happy Days” blue by Dulux how could you go wrong with a name like that.

Prue Franzmann Pic

PRUE FRANZMANN PHOTOGRAPHY

In a nutshell, who are you and what do you do?

In a nutshell – I’m a gal that loves LOVE!! Capturing people when they are in love is unlike any other form of photography to me. When you look at an image and you can feel the emotion that a couple have, which is what makes me fall in love with LOVE at every single wedding I capture and Iove that I get to give clients artwork emotionally charged like that!

What is it about weddings that you love so much?

Again, the emotion that people have at a wedding is priceless. Not just the couple… the parents, the grandparents, the long time family friend and the best friends, they are all invested in that coupled relationship and capturing the moments they don’t see is a big part of being an amazing wedding photographer.

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

If I had to choose a colour that best described me as a photographer I would probably choose black. During a large portion of the wedding day I’m like a photo ninja moving from place to place to capture things that the couple, or others, might miss. Its my job to best photograph the story of a couples wedding day so I have to be stealth in getting to the right place at the right time J….
Prue “photo ninja” Franzmann!!!

FIGTREE PICTURES

What is it about weddings that you love so much?

I love the fact that no two Weddings are the same. Essentially I am working in a different place, every day. I absolutely love that.

I love seeing two people madly in love, and watching all of happy friends and family sharing their joy. I honestly still shed tears behind my camera during the beautiful moments throughout the day.

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

The most unique thing I have seen would have to have been at one of my very first Weddings. The bride decided to ride up the aisle on her cruiser bicycle!

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

It would have to be yellow. Bright, happy and a little unique.

Josie Richardson-3

JOSIE RICHARDSON PHOTOGRAPHY

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

One of the first weddings I photographed was in the garden of a beautiful home in Byron Bay. Being that it was in the height of summer, it rained most of the day but that didn’t stop people from participating in the event just as they would’ve had it been sunny. The ceremony took place in the rain, band played on and everyone danced in the rain, and when they weren’t dancing, eating or laughing, people went for a swim in the pool. The groom’s shirt was wet and the bride’s dress was covered in mud but no one really fussed too much about how they were looking, they just concentrated on having lots of fun despite dripping from head to toe.

What do you do in your free time?

When I’m able to put aside time for fun I love to go camping in the bush somewhere or visit family or friends who live out of town. If it’s just a smaller amount of time then going to the movies with my son, which is not often these days as he’s a teenager now, or friends, or just going for bite to eat is the most rewarding thing to do when I have free time.

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

Probably blue because it makes me feel peaceful and is the colour of the ocean which I love to be in. When I’m floating in the ocean or a river it’s completely relaxing and the feeling of weightlessness makes me imagine what it might be like to be flying, and let’s face it, I don’t have wings!

THE PHOTO BOOTH GUYS

In a nutshell, who are you and what do you do?

I am Max Power and I am the worlds most awesome photo booth. The end.

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

Aside from me? Aside from all the guests  playing bingo at the reception? Aside from a bridesmaid losing a tooth whilst doing “the worm”? Aside from guests carving meat at the table whilst wearing rabbit masks? I don’t know… our weddings are pretty boring…

What do you do in your free time?

Get more awesome. And drink scotch.

The Brides Market… a very cool concept!

Last night, two thirds of the A Darling Affair team had the pleasure of seeing Brisbane’s newest bridal concept come to life in front of our eyes.  The Brides Market is the vision of Jennifer Gifford (yep, the same talented lady who brings us those divine bridal gowns!) and is a bit of a one stop shop for brides.  Our feedback from the evening?  It’s AMAZING!  This place is a must see for brides and vendors alike, there are separate sections of the store set aside to showcase different vendors, along with a gorgeous fitting room to try on some spectacular gowns and a really cool space for meetings.

This is a wonderful new way for brides to plan their special day and for vendors to showcase their work in a beautiful, creative retail space. Part bridal boutique, part wedding emporium and part industry hub in a seamlessly integrated space.  It’s located on Logan Road in Woolloongabba which is a really cute precinct with lots of cool cafes and restaurants nearby.

It’s open every day, so you can pop in and look at all things pretty at a time that suits you, and if that wasn’t enough, they’re also hosting Sunday markets once a month and Thursday evening flower and food markets!   We are in love.  Do yourselves a favour darlings and check this one out.

Breathtaking Backdrops

Let’s set the scene of two lovers soon to become one. To the alter the bride would traditionally walk to gaze into the eyes of the one she loves and there connects for the first time to be husband and wife.

It may sound theatrical, but really it is. People well up with emotions and grin from ear to ear for this joyous occasion. Families come together and unite through love.

We present to you what was the simple alter with a few minor decorating touches or a full blown creation. The “backdrop” now sets the scene………….
