Introducing our STATIONERS

Fox & Fallow

FOX & FALLOW

In a nutshell, who are you and what do you do?

Fox & Fallow is the creative collaboration between Janet Pogorelc (The “Fox”) and Darrell Kwong (The “Fallow”).  Hailing from sunny Brisbane this pair love all this cute, whimsical and rustic.

Specialising in creative ‘ink and dust’, Fox & Fallow create custom designed wedding stationery, chalkboards and timbre signage for fun, quirky and creative brides and grooms.  Combining hand-drawn typography, illustration and laser cutting, their stationery will definitely impress your guests and their fun program fans, paddle signs and menu wheels give them endless entertainment and photo ops.

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

We created a full chalkboard backdrop for a bride and groom who had their wedding photos taken in front of it.  They also used it for their thank you cards which were a super sweet keepsake for their guests.

What do you do in your free time?

Fox & Fallow takes up most of our free time as we both have day jobs.  But we do like to spend any free time walking our fluffy Corgi Geordie, scouting out new cafes in Brisbane or chilling out with a bit of Yoga.

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

Setting off a wishing lantern. There’s not many places it can be done due to fire hazards, but… it is amazing to watch.

What is it about weddings that you love so much?

Seeing an idea (or dream) come to life and helping to creating something special that reflects each couple. Then of course getting lovely comments. That always lights up my day

What do you do in your free time?

Free time?? It doesn’t happen often, but usually a swim or a run. I recently got a paddle board from my lovely hubby, so I’m really liking that at the moment. We put my beautiful 3yo daughter Willow on the front and we go out together.

And, we have friends and most of our family in Sydney so we go back to catch up with everyone quite regularly too.

What is the most unique thing you’ve seen at a wedding?

A picnic style reception, All guest sitting on blankets on the ground hanging out and eating good food.

If you were a colour, which colour would you be, and why?

YELLOW

1. Because yellow is happy and reminds me of sunny days.

2. Because my name Kowhai means yellow in English.

The Brides Market… a very cool concept!

Last night, two thirds of the A Darling Affair team had the pleasure of seeing Brisbane’s newest bridal concept come to life in front of our eyes.  The Brides Market is the vision of Jennifer Gifford (yep, the same talented lady who brings us those divine bridal gowns!) and is a bit of a one stop shop for brides.  Our feedback from the evening?  It’s AMAZING!  This place is a must see for brides and vendors alike, there are separate sections of the store set aside to showcase different vendors, along with a gorgeous fitting room to try on some spectacular gowns and a really cool space for meetings.

This is a wonderful new way for brides to plan their special day and for vendors to showcase their work in a beautiful, creative retail space. Part bridal boutique, part wedding emporium and part industry hub in a seamlessly integrated space.  It’s located on Logan Road in Woolloongabba which is a really cute precinct with lots of cool cafes and restaurants nearby.

It’s open every day, so you can pop in and look at all things pretty at a time that suits you, and if that wasn’t enough, they’re also hosting Sunday markets once a month and Thursday evening flower and food markets!   We are in love.  Do yourselves a favour darlings and check this one out.

Saving The Planet… One Invite At A Time!

We are lovers of the Earth here at ADA and it’s awesome to see ethical, nature loving wedding suppliers doing their bit to help preserve this place we call home.

Whether it’s recycled, up-cycled, handmade or home grown we love to see what can be done with leftovers that other people may have just thrown away.

As more people become aware of their carbon footprint we’re also noticing our Bride’s making more of a conscious effort to go “green” with their wedding choices.  And going green doesn’t mean giving up on quality, quite the opposite actually!

Take Maytide for example.  The result of using recycled materials, coupled with boutique craftsmanship, result simple clean designs and superior quality workmanship.  Classy and kind to the planet, go Maytide!

Maytide 2

Maytide 3If you’re looking for more ways to have a planet-friendly-party then let us know!  There are lots of awesome suppliers on the coast who make a big effort to reduce their carbon footprint and we’d love to send some your way.

The loveliest bird you’ll meet.

We have an obsession with someone and her name is Tanya. She owns The Lovely Bird down at Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast (never fear she sells online too).

Tanya is bubbly, funny as heck, full of inspiration and ideas – we don’t know how she fits it all in her gorgeous head – a styling guru and is totally “on-trend”.

So if you are stuck for some inspiration for your wedding day, or looking for some awesome favours, crafty bibs & bobs and a good old laugh to take the planning pressure of your big day off your shoulders have a chat to our lovely Tanya.

I always leave her shop with something in hand, a smile on my face and a new project that she has inspired me with.

The Lovely Bird is a sponsor for our Wedding Fair on August the 10th and we can’t wait to see the awesome POP UP SHOP she will be having at the fair. So bring your coin purses xxx

Check out some of her goodies below and there’s something AWESOME that we wish we could win at the bottom of this article (but we can’t cause we’re the organisers of the event)….

Crafty hands

Weddings that we love at A Darling Affair all have an element of craftiness to them.

From the earliest age i was exposed to scissors, paper, glue and pencils. I had a very DIY wedding 6 years ago and i just love how much it has evolved since then.

Raise your scissors and hold them high. Here’s a tribute to the people who make your weddings grand when you just run out of time!

All that GLITTERS is GOLD…

So, we have a not-so-secret obsession with GOLD at darling HQ. Carrie & I love glittery gold, shiny gold, antique gold, paint-dipped gold….yes we love gold.

We are not alone in our love, gold currently features in many a wedding colour palette. Paired against pastels or brights, gold is incredibly versatile and really lifts the overall visual effect of your table setting or stationery. Gold is not only a feast for your eyes, but for the tastebuds as well, working its way into cake artistry and sweet tables. It has also been a favourite to add a touch of warmth and glow to your bridal makeup, and an added touch of glamour to your bridal accessories.

Speaking of gold…it’s less than a month until our GOLD COAST WEDDING FAIR! June 22nd at The Abbey, Cobaki. Be sure to grab your tickets before online ticketing closes on June 15th to bring a friend for free!

See you then!

Things we love – Pretty Paper Awash with Colour

I have not-so-secret obsession with paper. All kinds, all colours, all textures, all patterns – LOVE them ALL. So naturally, it was only a matter of time before I shared my favourite trends in wedding stationery. There are four design elements that I am digging right now:

1. Watercolour

2. Caligraphy

3. Pinks

5. Yellows

And here are some of my favourite stationery suites to tickle your fancy, each with some or all of these key elements.

You’ll be able to see some of this stationery in person at our Gold Coast Wedding Fair on June 22nd. We will be joined by both Sunshine & Confetti and With Love Stationery & Design.

You’re starting to develop a little paper obsession too aren’t you? It’s okay, your secret is safe with me….I’ll be satisfying your paper crave again soon – don’t you worry.

Things we love – Fanciful Feathers

Feather on Ground text

There’s a strong boho-vibe in the wedding industry at present and along with that we’ve noticed an emergence of feathery details. I’ve always had a “thing” for feathers; I would often be found sketching feathers in my notebooks when I should have been taking notes. There is just something so whimsical about their delicate, floaty nature; something so day-dreamy about them – it’s easy to get carried away. Maybe it’s that dreaminess that makes them such a welcomed addition to a wedding celebration.

Kicking off with stationery, add that extra detail and texture with a feather – much like these designs from Gemma Lauren InvitationsGemma Lauren Invitation

Or create a more dramatic bouquet by incorporating some stunning plumes…Feather Bouqet

Add some finer details to your centrepieces by placing feathers in vases,

And last but certainly not least, by way of Bridal accessories ask your florist to incorporate feathers in your floral wreath…Lavish - head piece

Or absolutely indulge your fancy for feathers with this stunning “Maine” head piece, created by Heidi of Shut the Front Door.maine - shut the front door head piece

All these feathers are leaving me little light headed, and certainly light hearted! I hope they’ve lifted your spirits and send you floating away with some inspiration for you big day.

Things We Love – Minty Freshness

“Things We Love” is all about what makes us excited at A Darling Affair.

We will be sharing loads of gorgeous images on colour palettes, themeing, styling, blooms, objects used in different ways, cool ideas that are out of the ordinary and basically inspiring you to understand your own individual style.

Minty Freshness!

I love mints! I love to eat them. Mint chocolate, mint lip gloss, peppermint scents, it goes on and on. I’m pretty addicted to it.

So it’s not surprising that I LOVE the colour Mint!

Mint is a soft pale green with a touch of blue. It can come across as  fresh and pretty, or icy and cool.

mint_green

With our two Wedding Fair locations sharing a common theme being on the coast – Sunshine Coast & The Gold Coast – it’s safe to say that mint blends in with the freshness of the sea, as mint is sometimes referred to as ‘seafoam’.

So here is all the prettiness of the different shades of mint and how to style it!

A Darling Christmas Gift Guide

present

“Tis the season to be jolly…Fa la la la la, la la la la!”

Here at A Darling Affair headquarters we are pretty organised with the Christmas shopping already. Are you?

So that you don’t get stuck raging in the shopping centre car parks – going round and round – or lining up for ages at the check outs, here is a lovely little shopping guide from us to you. We want you to be JOLLY! Enjoy your shopping and select presents with love, not out of haste and without thought.

So here we go!

The Lovely Bird is nestled in Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast. Away from the major shopping complex. But it has something for everyone. Machine gun pens for the boys, jewellery for the girls, and crafty goodness for all ages (my girl can’t get enough of stacking the towers of Washi tape)

washi

Oh and don’t forget her lovely range of Christmas cards. Seriously, if you haven’t posted some now time is running out!

Another one of our all time time faves is Each To Own. She has beautifully cut jewellery made of wood and plastics. Instead of wearing daggy cheap Christmas earrings why not pretty deer brooches?
